The RubberNeck Rule…
Pluck your butt off the couch!
We know, sometimes the couch is a great weekend refuge. But, fun? C'mon! Try rubbernecking with us instead! Here's how it works...
The short version: Teams of two are given a set of different clues, consisting of physical and intellectual challenges, to start rubbernecking around the city. Challenges range from brain teasers, puzzles, trivia questions and photo hunts to obstacle courses, running, getting wet and dirty and, of course, rubbernecking!
The detailed version: Teams will cover 5 to 7 miles of city turf, using either public transportation (think subway, trolley, bus) or running on foot to the individual clues. To prove their completion of the rule, teams will have to take photos or retrieve an item from a RubberNeck Staff member. The first team back with all the clues successfully solved and completed will be declared the winner and an official Rubbernecker! The team’s time will be recorded when the second member of the team crosses the finish line or checks in.
Must haves…
- Digital Camera
- ID
- Some cash for fares (Bus, Train, Trolley, and/or Ferry) and for possible “Clue” requested items. $15 should be fine!
- Matching uniforms are required (the provided RNR t-shirt will do the trick), but costumes are highly encouraged. (There’s even a prize for the best costume!)
- Sense of Humor and GREAT attitude
Must Do’s…….
- Obey all local laws, regulations, traffic laws, local authorities, and property and venue owners.
- Comply and follow all directions of the RubberNeck Staff.
- Each individual team member must wear a race bib that is visible from the front. This will make it easier for a RubberNeck Staff member to check the teams in faster and more accurate.
- Always be courteous to other racers and/or other patrons of establishments that you encounter during the race. .
- Team members must stay within 100 feet of each other at all times, unless a clue or staff member directs otherwise.
Teams can use the following modes of transportation:
- City Bus
- Trolley
- Subway or City Train
- Ferries
- And of course, their own feet
Many times there will be more than one team at a clue or task location. In this event, teams must complete the task in the order in which they arrive. Each arriving team will have to wait until the task is completed by the team ahead of them before they can complete the clue. In the case of an unsuccessfully completed clue, that team will have go to the end of the line to try again. The RubberNeck Staff reserves the right to delay any team until the task is complete.
Should Do’s…..
- Since each race differs from city to city, make sure you read and understand the instructions and rules of the individual race. If something is not clear, ask a RubberNeck Staff member.
- Teams can use various forms of technology. Laptops, internet, GPS, etc. are fair game.
- Have a cell phone handy. Some clues might be a little difficult, so having a friend to call will be helpful.
- Have a city map or guide.
- Bring a bag to stash your loot.
Don’ts……
The RubberNeck Staff reserves the right, at their discretion, to disqualify and/or ask teams to leave the course for any of the following reasons:
- Unsportsmanlike or illegal conduct.
- Verbal or physical aggression toward other teams and/or their members and/or any member of the RubberNeck Staff, which includes volunteers.
- Cheating, and acts of vandalism and theft. This includes tampering with course clues to hinder another teams progress.
- Teams may not use personal modes of transportation i.e., bicycles, taxi cabs, pedi-cabs, motorcycles, automobile, skates, hotel transportation, etc.
And, remember, we’re Rubber...
You're glue. For every incomplete clue, we'll stick a 30 minute penalty to you.
This penalty will be assessed to the team’s final time. Teams will not have the option to return to the course to solve any incomplete clues.
The RubberNeck Staff reserves the right to disqualify any participants or teams for any reason at any time. The RubberNeck Staff also reserves the right to stop or disqualify a team in the event of a physical accident or any other incident that may have caused injury or sickness that hinders an individual’s ability to complete the race safely. |
